Whoever Lives in Christ …
1 John 3:4-6 Anyone who sins breaks God’s law. Yes, sinning is the same as living against God’s law. You know that Christ came to take away people’s sins. There is no sin in Christ. So whoever lives in Christ does not continue to sin. If they continue to sin, they have never really understood Christ and have never known him.
It can seem nigh on impossible sometimes to put an old head on young shoulders; to impart the wisdom of experience to our young ones in a way that they can readily accept.
I remember so many things my parents tried to teach me that I railed against. So they had to drum it into me – simple things like tidy up your room, comb your hair before you come out to breakfast, don’t answer back … each time, I’d squirm and complain and carry on in my immaturity.
But now I can look back and see clearly how their persistence paid off. Those things that seemed so outdated, so irrelevant to a teenager have borne fruit over and over again in my life.
In the same way, many today reject the seemingly old-fashioned, irrelevant notion of sin. Mention that little word out there and people will rail against it. How dare you judge me? How dare you try to impose your outdated beliefs on me?
Well, I’m not trying to impose anything on anyone. I just want to share the Word of God with you plainly and clearly:
1 John 3:4-6 Anyone who sins breaks God’s law. Yes, sinning is the same as living against God’s law. You know that Christ came to take away people’s sins. There is no sin in Christ. So whoever lives in Christ does not continue to sin. If they continue to sin, they have never really understood Christ and have never known him.
Whoever you are, wherever you’re at, please … take sin seriously.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
