Undeserved, Unreserved

Ephesians 1:7-8 In Christ we are made free by his blood sacrifice. We have forgiveness of sins because of God’s rich grace. God gave us that grace fully and freely.

There are two sorts of forgiveness in this world; the sort that you earn through what you do to make amends for your mistake, and the sort that’s given freely despite the fact that, for whatever reason, you may not be able to do what it takes to recompense the party you’ve injured. And putting the shoe on the other foot for a moment … we both know that the second one is much, much harder to give than the first.

Yep, forgiving someone who can’t pay you the price of the injustice or harm they caused you is darned difficult, right? When was the last time you found yourself in that position? Think back. Have you truly been able to forgive that person?

Imagine then how it must be for God … billions of people who’ve done wrong down through the ages; billions of people who’ve turned their backs on Him one way or another; and but a fraction of those who turn back, cap in hand so to speak, to ask Him to forgive the unforgiveable.

How difficult must it be for Him to forgive those who can’t earn His forgiveness? And none of us can, by the way, because the standard of a perfect God is perfection … and that’s a standard that you and I can never meet.  And yet …

Ephesians 1:7-8 In Christ we are made free by his blood sacrifice. We have forgiveness of sins because of God’s rich grace. God gave us that grace fully and freely.

The sheer magnitude of what God’s done there for us is incomprehensible. He paid the price through the sacrifice of His Son, so that you and I could be completely forgiven. That’s forgiveness – undeserved … unreserved.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
