The Pencil Case

Numbers 6:22-26 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

We all have certain things we own, that are special, that we treasure. So we take incredibly good care of them.

Back in my early school years I received a brand, new pencil case for my birthday made of brown, shiny plastic – probably not all that expensive, but my heart soared as I unwrapped it. My very, own, brand spanking new, pencil case. Wow!

It had a plastic window on the front with a card inside for writing your name on. To this day, I’ve never written my name so carefully, so neatly as I did on that day, on that card. Putting my name on it made it that much more special. Funny the things you remember.

Yesterday we discovered together that God’s intentions toward us are good, very good. But there’s something else in there that’s important. Here it is again:

Numbers  6:22-26 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

Did you pick that last bit? God will put His name on them, on us. That’s why Christians are called Christians – after Christ Himself. And that, my friend, makes you so incredibly special to Him as He sees your life unfold before His eyes. When God has put His name on you, He will bless you.

Because that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
