Praise the Lord!

Psalm 147:1-5 Praise the LORD because he is good. Sing praises to our God. It is good and pleasant to praise him. The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem. He brings back the Israelites who were taken as prisoners. He heals their broken hearts and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and knows each of them by name. Our Lord is great and powerful. There is no limit to what he knows.

Well, it’s Sunday, so what are your plans? Way back when, most people went to church, although that’s not the case anymore which is something of a tragedy. Not because we should try and wind the clock back to the 1950’s, but because so many are missing out on something so powerful.

If you believe the liberal press, church attendance is plummeting. Yet where I live, there are more people in church on any given Sunday than attend every football match for a whole season.

I get it. It’s easy to give church a miss when things aren’t going so well, when you’re feeling down. But especially in those times, there’s something that church offers that’ll make an incredible difference in your life:

Psalm 147:1-5 Praise the LORD because he is good. Sing praises to our God. It is good and pleasant to praise him. The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem. He brings back the Israelites who were taken as prisoners. He heals their broken hearts and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and knows each of them by name. Our Lord is great and powerful. There is no limit to what he knows.

Of course, you don’t have to be part of a church to praise God. Praising God at any time, especially in those bad times, puts you in touch with His power and mercy. It heals you from the inside out. Yet there’s something so incredibly powerful in praising God together with His people. He blesses that in a special way. That’s what church is about.

Praise the LORD because he is good. Sing praises to our God.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
