Joyful Jesus (3)

Luke 15:8-10 “Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (NRSV)

The world makes for a fickle audience. Sometimes they’re cheering us on, other times beating us down. No wonder we end up with a distorted sense of what we’re really worth.

We’ve been chatting these past few days about the joy of Jesus. And today I’d like to share yet another story of His joy – in fact the joy of all of heaven – that springs out of the value that He places on you.

Luke 15:8-10 “… what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (NRSV)

In this story, God is the woman, and you and I are that lost coin. Why does she turn the house upside down to find it? Why is she so feverish in seeking out that one lost coin? Why does she call her neighbours to rejoice with her when she finds it? Because of its value!

And that’s what Jesus is trying to get across to you and me today. He so wants you close to Him because, even with over eight billion people on planet Earth today, He values you, He loves you beyond words. You fill His heart, you fill all of heaven with joy. Just let that sink in, because …

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
