A Chosen People

Colossians 3:12 God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.

Imagine you could turn the clock back and undo the many mistakes that you, like me, have made in your life. What would you change? What would you do differently … if you had your time over again?

The bad news is that we can’t turn the clock back. We can’t erase our mistakes. We can’t turn those bad decisions into good ones.

So let’s turn the page to some good news. We still have today. There’s still a future ahead of us. There’s real potential there to break with the past; to do things differently; to react to the things that set us off differently.

But change is hard. I’m a naturally self-disciplined individual but still, I struggle to deal with my flaws, my entrenched patterns of behaviour on my own. How about you? So, here’s the good news:

Colossians 3:12 God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.

The whole point of God’s plan in sending Jesus to this earth was always to give us a new life that we can’t get for ourselves, no matter how disciplined we are; no matter how hard we try.

It’s God Himself who makes us holy, who accepts us as one of His own.

And when that happens, when we put our trust in Jesus, little by little that new life begins to unfold – a new life that looks like this: mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

That’s the new life that God has for you. Jesus.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
