A Child of God

1 John 3:1 The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world don’t understand that we are God’s children, because they have not known him.

As we mature, hopefully, we grow in wisdom. But as you do, becoming more aware of your own limitations amidst the rough and tumble of life, something else can rise up to rob you of all the benefits of that hard-earned wisdom. And that something else is pride.

Have you ever found yourself sneering down your nose at the patent stupidity, the immaturity, of others? How can they be that dumb, really? Look, that may well be reasonable judgement, but the sneering comes from a sense of superiority; it puffs us up in our pride. And pride is always ugly. Always.

I’ve seen Christians do that very thing. They’ve come to know God and then they’re shocked at how badly the rest of the world’s still behaving, when they themselves were there once; when they themselves are ruining everything through their arrogance and superiority.

1 John 3:1 The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world don’t understand that we are God’s children, because they have not known him.

God loves us so much … and when we receive the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life through our faith in Jesus, man, that changes everything. And if that’s happened to you, you get it.

But those to whom He hasn’t yet revealed Himself, those who haven’t received that free gift … they don’t; indeed they can’t get it, because they haven’t known Him.

So please, don’t be shocked. Don’t feel superior. Don’t judge them. Love them instead.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
