More than Sufficient
2 Corinthians 12:8,9 I begged the Lord three times to take this problem away from me. But the Lord said, “My grace is all you need. Only when you are weak can everything be done completely by my power.” So I will gladly boast about my weaknesses. Then Christ’s power can stay in me.
Have you ever jammed your finger in a door? Your day was just going along fine and then, bang. The pain shoots up your arm and into your brain and ouch! It hurts.
The whole of the rest of your body’s just fine. In fact, everything else in your life can be fine too. But all your attention’s completely hijacked by that excruciating pain as your fingernail starts to turn blue.
Even when the worst of it begins to subside, as it does inside about ten minutes, that constant throbbing takes the edge off any ability to enjoy the rest of your day.
It’s the same with that one thing in your life that you wish wasn’t there. Almost everybody has that one thing, whatever it happens to be. The Apostle Paul, back in the day, had a thorn in his flesh – the proverbial thorn in your side. He writes this about it:
2 Corinthians 12:8,9 I begged the Lord three times to take this problem away from me. But the Lord said, “My grace is all you need. Only when you are weak can everything be done completely by my power.” So I will gladly boast about my weaknesses. Then Christ’s power can stay in me.
Sometimes you pray and pray and pray for God to take it away, but He doesn’t. Why? Because He wants you to experience His grace, His loving kindness, His unmerited favour, His power to get you through.
Whatever you’re facing, God’s grace is sufficient for you. Always has been. Always will be.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
